Heat - Call For Evidence

Consultation published by The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform View original »

On 31st January 2008 BERR along with Defra and the Department of Communities and Local Government (CLG) published the Heat Call for Evidence.

This Call for Evidence is an important next step in developing our strategy for heat. The document sets out our understanding of the opportunities and prospects for renewable heat and some of the barriers that prevent the greater use of renewable heat. It asks for views about the technologies available to us - which offer the most efficient and practical contribution to achieving our aim and in which specific scenarios? It seeks views on whether we need new incentives to stimulate the development of renewable heat; what form they might take; and which options provide the most cost-effective solutions.

Changing the way in which we think about and use heat will be difficult and must be achieved cost-effectively. To move the discussions forward we need technical contributions and firm evidence on how we can overcome barriers to promote renewable heat including biogas, what role should low-carbon electricity play in heating and how surplus heat can be captured, transported and used, especially where we have a well established gas network.

BERR, Defra and CLG invites comments on the issues set out in the Call for Evidence. Representatives from all interested parties are invited and a list of questions is attached in the summary of the document.

The deadline for responses is 31 March 2008, though earlier responses would be helpful.

Respond online at the Heat - Call for Evidence website. The site is hosted by Dialogue By Design, who have been contracted by BERR.
